Dallas Comic Con 2012

Ok, I have to blog about this, because it was just such an amazing experience. Saturday I went to my very first Dallas Comic Con!

I was so excited about this. I had been wanting to go to a Comic Con, but I didn’t know that little old Dallas was privileged enough to have one. So Mykal and I got a sitter for Ally, got some friends together, donned our nerd shirts (mine was Batman), and off we went. I had a slight idea of what to expect, mainly from watching the San Diego Comic Con on G4Tv, and it was everything I imagined it would be. We arrived around noon and it was already packed, lines around the building and everything! But luckily we already had our badges, well not in our hands, but on their way to us. My amazing friend Jackie was kind enough to pick up the badges Friday evening so we would be good to go on Saturday. She was just as excited as we were, especially because this whole trip was a surprise to her husband Eric. So now we just had to wait for Jackie and her peeps to get there, which was totally fine because there was a ton of people outside to people watch for a while. There were so many awesome costumes and it just felt amazing to be surrounded by people who love the same stuff I do. People would talk to each other like they were all good friends or something, it was just an awesome atmosphere and I loved every second of it.

Oh be still my heart. Haha XD

I remember running into Jack Sparrow while we were waiting outside and I was so nervous to be around him haha. I wanted a picture so badly, but was too afraid to ask. I felt like a shy little girl and even giggled. *facepalm* haha. he just looked so much like the actual Jack Sparrow that I just couldn’t help it!  Just so you know, I did eventually get a picture with him when we made it inside, and I was still pretty giddy to see him. Oh Jack Sparrow, it’s a shame you weren’t actually Johnny Depp. I was actually really timid about taking pictures of all the people at first. But I lightened up seeing everyone taking pictures and video of everyone else, and I started taking as many pics as I could remember to take. Even Mykal got into the whole thing. Who would’ve thought? I guess he has an inner nerd hidden in there somewhere. He even jumped at the chance to take a picture with Iron Man. We took lots of pics with cosplayers, we missed a few choice people, but I’m very happy with the ones we have. I think my favorite is mine with the two Assassins from Assassins Creed. It’s funny, I saw them when we first entered the place, but as soon as I turned to tell Mykal about them they were gone! Talk about being good assassins. I kept searching for them the whole time, finally around the time we were about to leave, they showed up again. Then again, maybe my Batman pictures were my favorite. Oh so many choices! My friends were all laughing at me because I kept doing this excited, giddy, bouncy hop when I’d see something/someone cool. I can’t help it, it’s what I do. I become this bouncy kid and I squeak and hop with excitement.

Iron Man pose!

As great as it was, there were definitely some cons to the Con. The venue was entirely too small for the amount of people the showed up. Maybe a few years ago it was a choice place, but I think they need to look into alternate sites for next year. I couldn’t turn around without bumping into like 20 people and I couldn’t stop to look at anything without holding up those same 20 people from walking on to other things. I didn’t mind parking in the grassy lot out front, and I didn’t mind waiting in lines, I knew that it would be crowded. They could also do something about those food lines. All I wanted was a drink and it took me 30 minutes to get one, maybe they should have kiosk randomly placed to help with the thirsty people. What’s worse is that the food line was clogging up the exhibit hall and making it hard to get through any of the shops that were near the concession stands. They may also want to get more people working the concession stands, my line had one lady working the register and getting the food. A smarter idea would be to have someone working the register and another grabbing the food and drinks that the customer is asking for so that the lines clear up faster. And while this part wasn’t a huge issue I did find it weird that sometimes the escalators were on, sometimes they weren’t. I didn’t mind using the stairs though, cause I sure as heck wasn’t going to use the elevator. I don’t want to be stuck in a small box with a bunch of sweaty people, I’ll pass thanks. I really can’t wait until next year, I’ve heard it’s been better every year and I’m sure next year will be no exception, so long as they get a bigger venue. Plus, I’m pretty sure we will be cosplaying as well. It just looks like so much fun to be a cosplayer. You know you did a good job when you get stopped every five minutes to take a picture with someone. I only hope to be that awesome next year, guess we’ll see what happens. ^_~

Here are all of the pictures I took of this amazingly awesome day. Enjoy! 🙂
